Join Heart of Ellsworth for our 2024 Annual Meeting and Trivia Night! Finn's Irish Pub is sponsoring this fun community-building event.

Come meet Heart of Ellsworth’s board of directors and staff, learn about our 2023 accomplishments, and share your ideas/input for Downtown Ellsworth. Join us for a chance to win fun trivia prizes. The event begins at 5:30 pm on March 6th, 2024. Thanks to generous support from Finn's Irish Pub, our 2024 Annual Meeting sponsor, we will have appetizers and non-alcoholic drinks for all attendees.

Announcing Historic Preservation Workshop Series with Maine Preservation
Join Maine Preservation & Heart of Ellsworth for a three-part workshops series about Historic Preservation. Historic preservation is the pursuit of protecting and stewarding significant sites and places through policy and advocacy at the local, state, and national levels, as well as repair and reuse of individual structures and buildings.
 
This series will demonstrate how this effective practice can be applied in Ellsworth, starting with an introduction to the basics of the field, followed by an overview of financing options for rehabilitation projects, and closing with an explanation of best practices for adapting and updating buildings for re-use.

March 28, 5:30 - 7 PM

From the castles and cathedrals of Europe to the historic districts of Charleston, learn about the origins of the historic preservation field and discover how it can play a powerful part in shaping your community’s future. Together we’ll explore how to identify, recognize, and
support the buildings and places that make Ellsworth a special city to live, work, and visit.

Get Involved in the City Budget
 
The City of Ellsworth operates on a fiscal year that spans from July 1 to June 30. Annually, the city engages in a comprehensive process to formulate an Annual Budget, meticulously outlining both expenses and revenues necessary to provide services throughout the fiscal year. This is a collaborative process of active participation from various stakeholders, including city departments, the City Manager, City Councilors, community organizations, and residents. Input from all, especially residents, ensures that the budget is reflective of the needs and priorities of Ellsworth.

Artsworth continues to offer fine craft classes, listening rooms, and dance programming in late winter/early spring. Join them each Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. for DOING! a weekly gathering of making and creating. No rules apply: just bring what you are working on and a snack! Reopening for the Season - Mimi's Craft Basket

Friday, March 1

Mimi's Craft Basket is reopening for the season, with handcrafted gifts, plus great craft classes and workshops. Hours are Mon.-Wed. 10:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Thurs.-Sat. 10:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m., and closed on Sundays.

Stockbridge Civil War Letters - Ellsworth Historical Society

Monday, March 4: 7 p.m.

Ellsworth resident Sidney Stockbridge found himself in enlisted service to the US military during the Civil War. Join the historical society to learn from his letters home to Ellsworth. 
He describes famous battles, locations, and events during his time in the South.

Cultivating Mindful Self-Compassion - Healthy Acadia

Thursday, March 7: 5-6 p.m.

History Lecture Series: The Ann Greely Story - Woodlawn

Monday, March 11: 6 p.m.

Join storyteller Jude Lamb to learn about the fascinating life of Ann Greely. Ann was the granddaughter of John Black, the founder of Woodlawn. She was a business owner and a well-known figure in the history of Ellsworth.

Ellsworth Community Music Institute (ECMI) offers its next Midday Concert @ 1:00 on March 15th, with Trio Heidi Powell and Sylvia Schwartz (baroque violin) and Rafael Scheck (baroque cello).

Instrument Petting Zoo - Ellsworth Community Music Institute


Saturday, March 23: 10 a.m.-12 p.m. 
 

ECMI's Instrument Petting Zoo is an interactive musical instrument demonstration featuring the cello, violin, piano and guitar. ECMI instructors will be present for the event offering demonstrations, allowing young children ages 4 and up to touch, play and experience the instruments in person. Join us at the Ellsworth Public Library to hear some music and experience hands-on interactions with our instructors and their instruments.

Griffin William Sherry - The Grand

Thursday, March 28: 7 p.m.

Sherry co-founded the independent band The Ghost of Paul Revere in 2011, capturing the hearts and minds of countless fans with a series of acclaimed releases and sold-out shows. In 2022, Griffin began working on his first solo record, taking a defiant step in a new direction. Living somewhere in-between modern catharsis and American myth, Griffin William Sherry's roots continue to grow strong in the ever-evolving genres of Folk, Americana and Rock & Roll.

On the Horizon Bakery featured in ‘From Scratch’ hosted by David Moscow



In December, On the Horizon Bakery was featured in an episode of the nature-to-table TV show ‘From Scratch.’ Hailee contributes to the episode, featuring authentic New England/Maine dishes, by teaching host David Moscow how to make a blueberry pie from scratch right inside her mobile bakery (the same bakery parked in the Heart of Ellsworth every week during the warm months of Maine).
