Food is an essential part of a communities’ well-being. We want to improve awareness of and access to affordable, high-quality food in Downtown Ellsworth. So, to connect residents and community members, we’ve compiled this list of local food resources to support and promote area entrepreneurs who comprise our local farmers, makers and producers, making Ellsworth a thriving food hub of the Downeast region.

ELLSWORTH FARMER’S MARKET

The Ellsworth Farmers' Market was founded in 1978, making it one of the longest operating markets in the state of Maine. Located in the Heart of Downtown Ellsworth on Main Street (190 Main Street) you will find locally-grown and -crafted items as well as fresh vegetables, fruits, meat, dairy, baked goods, prepared food and so much more! The farmers’ market is open every Saturday, rain or shine, during the summer months. Local Food Delivery

FarmDrop is like an online farmers’ market. You can shop for high-quality local goods from 40 Downeast area farmers, brewers, and florists. With convenient community pickup and delivery, you can grab your grocery order the main floor of the Ellsworth Public Library on Wednesdays from 2 – 6 PM.

Through a joint collaboration with Heart of Ellsworth, Ellsworth Public Library and others partnered with FarmDrop to launch the Ellsworth Hub in the spring of 2023. If you are a producer interested in selling on FarmDrop, please reach out; we are happy to connect you to the FarmDrop team.

Emmaus Homeless Shelter (51 Main Street) hosts a free food market every Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 to 10:00 A.M. ET. They collaborate with management from Ellsworth’s Hannaford and Shaw’s Supermarkets to provide produce, baked goods, and more. Arrive early for the best selection!

Loaves & Fishes

Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry (137 Downeast Highway) feeds and serves the hungry of Hancock County, striving to eliminate food insecurity in our community. Whether you’re having a hard time now or have faced food insecurity for years, Loaves & Fishes can help. Their volunteer receptionist won’t ask a lot of questions. There’s never a charge for food, and you can shop their grocery store once per week.
