Meet the candidates - next Tuesday, Oct.15th, 2024

2024 Meet the Candidates poster, designed by Rachel Yves and featuring “The Singing Flag” painting by Joy Halstead. The painting was donated to the City of Ellsworth by Richard & Hellen Dudman and is part of the city's permanent art collection on view at Ellsworth City Hall.

Five candidates vying for two seats on Ellsworth’s City Council will convene at The Grand Theater on Tuesday, October 15, at 6:30 p.m. The forum will be recorded and broadcast on the Heart of Ellsworth and City of Ellsworth’s YouTube channels. This event is open to the public free of charge, made possible by the generous support of the City of Ellsworth.

Meet the Candidates 2024 is presented in collaboration with Heart of Ellsworth and The Ellsworth American. This annual nonpartisan event aims to offer an informative platform for Ellsworth residents ahead of the upcoming elections. All candidates running for Ellsworth City Council seats are encouraged to participate. Such forums play a crucial role in raising awareness about local issues and fostering community engagement in local democracy. Residents can submit questions in advance via email to news@ellsworthamerican.com.

The October 15th discussion will feature five candidates: incumbent Stephen O’Halloran, John Linnehan, Robert McKenney, Cale Roberts, and Tabatha White.

Heart of Ellsworth Executive Director Cara Romano commented, “We are delighted to partner once again with The Ellsworth American, with Cyndi Wood, Managing Editor, serving as moderator. Hosting this event annually at the Grand Theater provides a valuable opportunity for residents to engage in local democracy, whether attending in person or participating from home.”

Heart of Ellsworth recently achieved Main Street America designation in September 2024, becoming Maine’s 11th nationally accredited program. The organization aims to enhance economic, artistic, cultural, educational, historical, and environmental initiatives within the downtown area, fostering a vibrant community for residents, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and local government.
