1. People of Ellsworth past present and future

This tower represents community building and renewal with people standing on the shoulders of other people. It’s also a design element up the side of the wall allowing confetti of birds and fishes to create a pattern of design that extends the entire length of the wall and swoops back up.  Local art teacher Sara McDougall led nine area high school students on a month-long student program to learn the history of mural painting, the process of designing a mural, and the materials and techniques involved with painting a mural. The students learned about the variety of birds and fish that are native to the Ellsworth region and created bold, stylized drawings that were turned into stencils and later applied to the mural, with artist supervision. 

As we move through the modern-day characters, they are nondescript of different ethnicities and either pull back or engage with each reveal. The reveals are indicative of a historic event in Ellsworth’s past. Heart of Ellsworth partnered with the Ellsworth Historical Society to select subjects for the 11 historical reveals that make up the mural.
